KUALA LUMPUR, WORLD’S #5 SHOPPING CITY

A trip on public transport, a pair of jeans and a pair of Nikes will cost you just £75.28 in KL – making it one of the cheapest on our list. More than 11 million visitors and a decent friendliness rating make it the 5th best shopping city.
Shopping in Kuala Lumpur offers the designer names and international chains you’ll find around the world, but dig a little bit deeper and you’ll discover an abundance of independent stores and stalls that are unique to this majestic city. So, get your wallets ready as we take you on a shopper’s tour of the Malaysian capital.

HIGH STREET

As with most Asian cities, shoppers will find the vast majority of the big name high street stores in Kuala Lumpur’s many malls, where mid-range labels like Topshop, Forever 21 and H&M rub shoulders with the likes of Jimmy Choo and Agent Provocateur. However, of all the malls, it’s probably the Mid Valley Megamall that offers the best range of shops for all you high street label hunters.

VINTAGE

If you like a spot of old-school shopping for some top vintage threads, Kuala Lumpur will not disappoint. On the first floor of the Campbell Complex you’ll find Yellow Kombi Vintage, home to over a dozen vintage and bundle stores and perfect for a good rummage. In the Klang Valley there’s Buntil (the Malay word for Bundle), with its fantastic collection of vintage items like leather bags, shoes and an abundance of denim!

DESIGNER/LUXURY

The most luxurious of all the malls is Pavillion, which is Kuala Lumpur’s answer to haute couture. Here you’ll find high-end labels like Burberry, Gucci, Celine and Salvatore Ferragamo. The Gardens is another mall that caters for those with a taste for the finer things in life. There are stores like Louis Vuitton, Armani and Hugo Boss as well as an excellent range of restaurants serving international cuisine.

The Starhill Gallery is the mall to indulge your designer predilections. Outlets like Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen and Bottega Veneta will indulge and delight designer shoppers. And if that’s not enough, head over to the Suria KLCC mall, located at the foot of the spectacular Petronas Twin Towers, for Chanel, Giorgio Armani and Marc Jacobs.

SALES

If you love nothing better than bagging a bargain then the four words ‘Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival’ will be music to your ears. To promote the capital as a must-visit shopping destination, the Malaysian Tourist Board has introduced countrywide sales twice a year, the first of which is the Mega Sale Carnival, which is typically held in July and August and offers discounts of up to 70 percent.
